View CommentBag says ‘pre-cleaned’ and I would say that’s true compared to some other brands I’ve bought which left a lot of clay mud and small particles during the cleaning process. This left only brick colored murky water. As others have pointed out, they should be washed before use, at least in hydroponics applications. Put them in a 5 gal bucket with plenty of water, swish them around (toilet plunger is great for this), scoop out with a colander, rinse each scoop full with a hose, and you’re done…
View CommentI bought 3 of these bags because 1.5 bags gets me 12″ depth in a 3-4 sq. foot grow bed… and I have two beds. Overall, I’d say that these pebbles are working perfectly. They are pre-cleaned but definitely accumulate a lot of dust through shipping. You must wash them well. Lots of complaints about these things floating, and they are correct. I soaked them in water for about 30 hours and applied a board to submerge them forcibly. They kept floating. So then I decided to put them in little groups…
