Container Gardening Ideas and Resources

There are soooo many items you can use to make some very creative plant and flower containers. Have you ever thought of using work boots? Rusty buckets or pails? A wheelbarrow? How about and old bicycle or tricycle (you could use a bicycle for flowers and have some kind of vine draped over the frame). Old fashioned baby carriage? Watering cans?

Tips: Look for items that are deep enough to hold plenty of potting soil so your plants will thrive. If the container is solid be sure to drill drainage holes to avoid root rot. Protect roots in sun-baked metal containers with a newspaper liner. Make sure tall containers are protected from the wind so they won’t topple. And, you can extend your potting soil by first filling the container with recycled materials.
