My Quest to Build an Indoor Herb Garden

by Samuel X. Clarke

I love to use fresh herbs in my cooking and I hate to pay $3-4 for bunch of parsley from the supermarket which is saggy and has obviously been there for some time.

There can be no doubt that the fresher the herbs are the better they taste.

To date, I have been growing fresh herbs outside the back of my garage, down some steps from the deck outside the kitchen as well as some on the deck itself.

The ones on the deck are grown in normal soil and the results have been mixed, it is currently winter here in Sydney Australia ” so, not expecting too much growth ” in the summer I get good results from this way of growing.

By using a Hydroponics System I purchased a year ago, I have been getting great results, all the year round.

So, what is my Indoor Herb Garden Challenge about you would be asking yourself!

Believe it or not, I think its a pain to have to leave the kitchen to go and pick the fresh herbs I have growing outside – a bit of a character flaw I am afraid.

So, it struck me recently, how great it would be to just have them growing on the bench or in the kitchen window and I could have my very own indoor herb garden, where I just lean over and pick the herb I need to use and then it keeps growing and refreshing itself.

Well, easy you might say, just go out and buy one of those kits that you see advertised around the place, so, I did think about doing that and read some reviews etc. The one that is marketed mostly in Australia I wont mention brands at this point, it uses a lamp system and looks great on TV, but from reading some reviews, it may be a bit noisy, also, it is quite pricey. There is another one I see advertised in USA ——- which seems to be good, but doesn’t sell here as far as I know.

Anyway, I thought, why not try to duplicate my success with the Hydroponics system outside and use it to build my very unique Indoor Herb Garden?

So, that is what the Indoor Herb Garden Challenge is all about.

As an added bonus, it may well help me to understand how the internet works, as I keep a log of my attempt.

Despite the fact I am living in Sydney Australia, this should be useful worldwide as we all have indoors.

There are probably hundreds of reason why this wont work, but I’m going to give it a REAL GO !

So, get behind me on this!
