Growing Plants Inside with Hydroponic Methods

Hydroponic gardening methods have been researched for many years and are currently used by various growers. There are now many different soilless systems that can be used to cultivate a range of different flowers in almost any climate.

In order to set up a complete hydroponic system there are a few components that must be thought out; an irrigation method, grow medium, lighting, and regulation of the environment. Every plant species can have different needs so the best grow systems are able to reproduce the optimal setting for whatever herb is being cultivated.

There are many options to consider when designing a hydroponic system, it is critical that all the Design decisions you make are compatible with the flowers you intend to cultivate.

One of the critical aspects of any hydroponic technique is the medium. Hydroponics means using only water as a grow medium instead of soil, however some techniques use inert substances as cultivation mediums.

The nutrient solution can be the only material that a plant’s roots ever make contact with, or growers can use inert mediums such as vermiculite, perlite, rock wool, or coir to stabilize the plants and regulate watering.

Hydroponic designs that suspend roots in solution only can either be continuous flow methods or static methods. Whatever the grow medium water can either be delivered up from the bottom through sub-irrigation or from up top in top irrigation. There are a few systems designed to regulate both nutrient and oxygen delivery called aeroponic, flood and drain, and deep water culture.

Grow lights are vital for indoor gardening, without them raising healthy plants would be very difficult. To provide the intensity of light needed for proper growth gardeners often use specially engineered grow lamps. There are several different types of bulbs uses such as high pressure sodium, metal halide, fluorescent, and LED grow lamps.

Beyond providing your flowers with the minerals they require and light they require it is also important to ensure that the environment remains appropriate for them. An appropriate environment means that air is circulated, adequate gas levels, proper temperature, and no pests.
