Outdoor Solar Lights, An Answer For Lighting Problems

by Michael Sampson

Many times you will find an area of your lawn where accent lights would offer a great benefit, but find that there is no power available to that spot. Rather than call the electrician, you should install outdoor solar lights. Even with the most expensive solar lights, you may find a less expensive solution for that problem area.

Solar lighting requires no wires. You will not need a transformer or to burry the wires from light to light. Additionally, solar lights, without the wires can be placed where they are needed. All that is required is to stick a stake into the ground. If you are installing the lights during the dry season, hardened ground can be softened by allowing your sprinkler to run in the are for several hours.

Once the light is installed, sunlight is converted to electricity through a photovoltaic cell and stored in a rechargeable battery. This battery then provides the needed electricity to power the light well into the night. Many of the newer solar lights have LED lights that allow the power of the battery to be extended far beyond the ability of an incandescent light. An added bonus is that these lights cost you absolutely nothing to operate.

For the lights to operate correctly there must be adequate sunlight during the day. The batteries need to charge for several hours. Even then lights may not remain on for the entire night, but do remain lit from dusk until midnight. These are not the best choice of emergency lights. They are the easiest of outdoor lights to install. They can offer great accent lighting.

When lighting under a tree, remember the shading may not allow for adequate charging of the batteries. The same is true for the shaded side of your home. In these instances, traditional lawn lighting may be your best choice. Keep solar lighting in mind for those more remote areas of your yard.

The cost of solar lighting can range from very inexpensive to very expensive. Inexpensive solar lights can be bought at local discount stores for as little as four dollars per light. For more decorative sets, you can expect to pay more for the lights.

If you need to light a drive way or a walk, solar lighting is often a very good choice.

Remember that outdoor solar lights are green choices. This choice is harmless to the environment.
