Commercial Vacuum Cleaners Versus Regular Vacuum Cleaners
Commercial vacuum cleaners are now regularly stocked right alongside so-called household vacuum cleaners, and marketed to the same audience of people who just need a good cleaner to keep the carpets at home nice and clean. But what does it mean when a vacuum cleaner is commercial versus household? Are the commercial vacuum cleaners sold to households really better or stronger? Are they truly “commercial vacuum cleaners” or is that just way to make them appear better than the competition?
You’ll soon learn that these questions have answers which are not cut and dry but rather like the answer you once saw in school, “all of the above.”
Historically, a commercial vacuum cleaner is a cleaner sold for business purposes. For example, a company that has regular foot traffic and especially customers coming into their offices, will need to ensure their carpets look nice and clean each and every day. This means they are going to have a cleaning crew which vacuums every single evening once things quiet down in the office. That amount of regular vacuuming is far, far above and beyond what a typical household would do in the same time period. A normal home might use their vacuum cleaner 1-2 hours a week, whereas a commercial vacuum cleaner might get 10-15 hours per week. So the difference is going to start from the ground up in that a commercial item needs to be able to withstand much more use, much more often, and much longer. This typically translates into a stronger motor and stronger, more durable materials being used to construct the device.
Beyond a better motor and better materials, these commercial models also came equipped with a power cord that was ready to do the job, big or small. Since businesses are much larger than peoples homes, the power cord needed to be able to stretch a much further distance than the power cords on household models.
So a vacuum cleaner that meets those guidelines is going to qualify beyond a standard household cleaner into a commercial cleaning tool. If that is so, then it certainly is of higher quality and durability than a household model. Beware though that not all models dubbed commercial really are – it is sometimes used as a way of standing out of the crowd as looking better than a household model, when it’s mainly just the same thing.
One last point is that there is another difference not mentioned so far. That is the different in the price! As you can imagine, the cost is higher for the superior commercial vacuum cleaner models. However, to meet your needs, you can’t skip quality for a low price.
